Our Hip-Hop Workshops
How it all started?
Full Effect Dance Theatre's directors, Dane A Campbell, Blair Cartlidge, and Jayce Burns went out to Barrington to do a Hip Hop workshop for Bataille Acadamie of the Danse Dance Company. " It was a great experience, especially being able to give the school a taste of our dance style," says Blair after wrapping up her class with the high school juniors who were 1-2 stepping to Ciara's "Get Up". "Truly a learning experience within itself," Dane commented during a break session. "Incredibly fun and they were surprisingly receptive to everything we did," Jayce explained after ending day number one.
Each instructor taught six classes over the course of two days in the following disciplines of Hip Hop: Streets, Funk, and Technical. They instructed students whose ages ranged from nine to seventeen. Click here to see the Barrington workshops promo.
Hip-Hop Integration
As a company that showcases several Hip-Hop dancers who are technically trained, we provide urban Hip-Hop master classes and workshops like no other. "Though its a Hip-Hop class we utilize terms that the students can identify with," says Dane in reference to terms borrowed from the more classical styles of dance. Words like plie and releve are used to explain the movement. Aaron Gunn, company dancer, comments "I remember my dance teachers being concerned about me cross training in Hip-Hop, when in actuality it was dancing with FEETDCo that led them to believe i had training all along, thus earning me a full scholarship".
The truth is that any teacher would be concerned about practices that antagonize the lesson at hand. This is why FEETDCo has selected three key instructors who recognize the technique in Hip-Hop. "We have one body that can only move so many ways...the difference lies in the choreography and in the execution," says Blair.

Principal company dancer and instructor, Jayce Burns taught Hip Hop-Funk in his workshop. He incorporated Jazz in his routine to Beyonce's "Suga Mama". Bataille students had fun being "sassy" while executing hot dance moves, still allowing them to keep pointed toes.
Associate Director, Blair Cartlidge is no stranger to working with aspiring dancers. As Missy Elliot's assistant choreographer, teaching the science of Chicago Street Hip Hop was second nature. Topping some of her many accomplishments is having founded the Total Domination Youth Dance Ensemble, the second company within FEETDCo.
Artistic Director and founder of FEETDCo, Dane A Campbell taught the discipline of precision based Hip Hop, using lines and sharp isolated moves to give Bataille a new prospective on becoming a rhythm nation. Dane has penned and choreographed a huge percentage of FEETDCo's productions and films since its inception in 1995.
